I am the founder of Algae Research Labs, specializing in microscope-based identification and enumeration of phytoplankton to support water quality monitoring and research. My mission is to provide accurate, detailed, and timely analyses that help environmental professionals maintain healthy aquatic ecosystems.
My background combines a passion for aquatic ecology with practical expertise in microscopy, scientific data collection, and technical reporting. I’m eager to collaborate with researchers, environmental organizations, and water quality professionals who share a commitment to advancing freshwater health.
I hold a BS in Environmental Science from Western Washington University, where I trained in freshwater algae taxonomy through work with the Institute for Watershed Studies. My undergraduate thesis focused on marine diatoms in estuarine environments. I earned an MS in Biology from the University of West Florida, where my research examined changes in marine phytoplankton and bacterial communities following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, with a focus on the impacts of hydrocarbons on phytoplankton community structure.
